# FAQ for Field Crews

## New in v3.3

The questions the 3.3 update is most likely to raise on your first day back in the field.

### Where did my Project go?

**Short answer:** You're still a member of it. In v3.3, belonging to a Project and having it downloaded are two separate things, and a device carries **up to ten Projects** at a time. Go to the Projects screen and sync it back from an empty slot.

**Why this matters:** Nothing was deleted and nobody removed you. Your work is on the Cloud and the Project comes back complete, with Records, media, Overlays, and offline map areas.

### The app is making me choose ten Projects. Do I lose the rest?

**Short answer:** No. Everything you don't keep is **offloaded, not deleted**, and you stay a member of all of them. Anything you hadn't synced uploads before a Project leaves the device.

**Tip:** Keep the ones you're actually working this month. Re-syncing a Project later takes a few minutes on Wi-Fi.

### Why is Codifi asking me for a six digit code?

**Short answer:** Your organization has multi-factor authentication turned on. Open your authenticator app, find the Codifi entry, and type the code. Codes roll over every thirty seconds, so if one is about to expire, wait for the next.

**Lost the phone with your authenticator on it?** There's a self-service reset on the sign-in screen. You don't need to raise a support ticket.

### Can we sync to each other with no cell service?

**Short answer:** Yes. That's **Nearby Sync**. Switch on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, neither of which has to be connected to anything, then open the Project, tap the **Cloud icon**, and turn Nearby Sync on. Everyone on the crew does the same and Records start flowing between devices.

**Tip:** Airplane mode with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth switched back on is a good setup for a full day out. You save the battery the iPad would otherwise spend hunting for a cell signal.

### Nearby Sync is grayed out and says "Not available yet".

**Short answer:** The Project doesn't have its full history on your device yet, which Nearby Sync needs before it can share anything. Run **Consolidate** on the Project from the gear on its card, wait a few minutes, and the toggle becomes available.

**Most likely if:** you only just synced the Project down, or it's still finishing its download.

### One person on the crew has service. Can they sync for all of us?

**Short answer:** **No, and this one can cost you photos.** Full resolution originals never leave the device that took them until that device reaches the Cloud itself. Nearby Sync shares Records and photo *previews* so you can see each other's work, not the original files.

**What to do:** Before anyone calls the day done, check that **every iPad that took photos** shows a green cloud icon, not just the one that found signal.

### My teammate's photos look soft, but mine look fine.

**Short answer:** You're looking at a preview. Photos that arrive over Nearby Sync stay previews until the device that took them uploads the original. Once that happens, the full resolution version replaces it.

**Not the same thing as:** a photo that's pixelated at full size, which is usually digital zoom on the camera. See the known issue below.

### My Codifi photos stopped showing up in my iPad's camera roll.

**Short answer:** Saving a personal copy to the Photo Library is **off by default** in v3.3. Your photos are still attached to the Record and still syncing normally. If you want the camera roll copy back, switch it on in the camera settings.

### It doesn't ask me which organization I'm in anymore.

**Short answer:** That step is gone. The Projects screen now shows everything you have access to across every tenant you belong to, with a label on each entry, so there's no organization to pick first.

### Why isn't my photo uploading?

**Short answer:** Codifi needs to be open and connected to the internet to push queued media. iOS pauses uploads when the app isn't foregrounded.

**Why this matters:** If you take photos in the field, then close Codifi and leave site, those photos sit in your iPad until you're next open and online.

### How do I know if everything has synced?

**Short answer:** Watch the **cloud icon** at the top of the map screen. A solid green check means everything's up — Records and media included.

### My GPS dot is orange or red — what's wrong?

**Short answer:** Your GPS signal is degraded (orange) or lost (red). For an internal-iPad GPS, move to open sky. For an external receiver, check that it still has a clear view and is reporting a fresh fix.

### I tapped on the map and nothing happened — why?

**Short answer:** You probably tapped a **map overlay** (a reference layer loaded by your project manager), not a Codifi Record. Overlays don't respond to single-tap. **Long-press** the spot to see the overlay's attributes.

### My photos look pixelated when I open the Record — what happened?

**Short answer:** The iPad camera was using digital zoom when the photo was taken. Pinch back to **1x zoom** and move closer to the subject.

### I logged in yesterday but the app made me log in again today. Why?

**Short answer:** Authentication tokens expire after a period of inactivity. **Log in the night before a field day** so your session is fresh when you arrive on site without service.

### How do I add a Record to a parent (like an STP under a Transect)?

**Short answer:** Tap the parent Record on the map → open its Record card → tap the kebab menu → **Add Child Record**. Codifi will offer the valid child archetypes for that parent.

### I made a Record under the wrong parent — how do I fix it?

**Short answer:** Open the Record → **Manage Relationships** → add or change the parent. The map position doesn't change; only the hierarchy link.

**Tip:** Use the **Focus Lineage** filter to scope the map and list to a single parent's family so the misplaced Record is easy to spot.

### How do I share a Record with a teammate?

**Short answer:** Tap the assignee avatar on the Record → choose another team member. Reassigning a Record passes it to them.

### The plus button doesn't show the Record type I need.

**Short answer:** Either you don't have a parent Record selected (some archetypes only exist as children), or your Project's Composition doesn't include that archetype. Check with your project manager.
