# Quick Actions (Smart FAB Suggestions)

When you finish creating a Record, Codifi often suggests what you'll probably do next — usually "create another Record like this one, under the same parent." Those suggestions show up as **Quick Actions** above the floating action button (the **+** FAB).

Quick Actions exist to speed up repetitive capture rhythms — walking a transect dropping STPs, working through a list of features under a site, photographing each item in a tally.

## When Quick Actions appear

The most common case: you just created an STP under Transect 1. Codifi guesses you'll want another STP under the same transect. The **+** FAB now shows a Quick Action chip "Add another STP under Transect 1" — tap it and the next STP is created with the same parent, the next sequential number, and (with Quick GPS Create on) a fresh GPS point at your current location.

Other typical Quick Actions:

* **After capturing a feature under a site** → suggest "Add another Feature under Site 5."
* **After taking a photo on a Record** → suggest "Take another photo for this Record."
* **After creating a child** of a particular parent → suggest creating more children of the same kind under the same parent.

## When Quick Actions don't appear

They're suggestions, not requirements. They don't appear when:

* You haven't created any Records yet — Codifi has nothing to suggest.
* The most recent activity doesn't fit a chain pattern (e.g., you edited a field on an existing Record rather than creating something new).
* The relationship constraints don't allow another child (e.g., the parent already has its single allowed child of that archetype).
* Your Project has Quick Actions disabled in [Mobile Project Settings](/codifi-docs/mobile-app/mobile-project-settings.md).

If a Quick Action doesn't appear when you'd expect one, just use the **+** FAB normally — pick the archetype, pick the parent, fill the form. Same result, one or two extra taps.

## What Quick Actions inherit

A Quick Action sets up the new Record with:

| Inherited              | From                                                                                                                           |
| ---------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Archetype**          | The archetype of the most recently created Record.                                                                             |
| **Parent**             | The same parent as the most recently created Record.                                                                           |
| **Auto-number suffix** | Next sequential number, per [Record Auto-Numbering](/codifi-docs/mobile-app/mobile-project-settings/record-auto-numbering.md). |
| **GPS point**          | Current GPS position, if Quick GPS Create is on for the archetype.                                                             |

The new Record is created and you're either dropped on its location card (if it's a multi-vertex geometry) or directly on the form (if it's a point with GPS Quick Create).

## How to disable Quick Actions

Per Project, in [Mobile Project Settings](/codifi-docs/mobile-app/mobile-project-settings.md):

1. Open the Project's settings (Project name → gear icon).
2. Scroll to **Archetype Policies** or **User Preferences**.
3. Find the Quick Actions / Suggested Create Actions toggle.
4. Toggle off.

Most crews keep Quick Actions on — the speed bump on a busy capture day is meaningful. Some prefer them off for Projects where relationships are subtle and "next likely action" is too easy to guess wrong.

## When Quick Actions guess wrong

Occasionally Codifi suggests a chain that doesn't match what you intended — usually because the last Record you created wasn't actually representative of your next move. Just ignore the chip and use the **+** FAB normally; Codifi resets its guess based on whatever you do next.

## Common questions

### Does Quick Action work with Quick GPS Create?

Yes — they're designed together. Quick GPS Create skips the "Create vs Create and Map" step for single-point archetypes; Quick Action chains the next Record. Together, the chain is: tap the chip → Record created with parent, number, and GPS, form open for fill.

### What if my Project doesn't use parent-child relationships?

Quick Actions still appear for archetype repetition (suggesting another Record of the same archetype), just without inheriting a parent. Less powerful but still useful for fast repetitive capture.

### Can I see what the Quick Action will create before I tap it?

The chip shows the archetype and the inherited parent. If you need more detail than the chip offers, use the **+** FAB normally and pick from the full menu — same end result.
