# The Record Creation Screen
When you tap to create a new Record – either through the top-level Record creation (blue + button on Records List) or through the "Add Child Record" available through the action menu next to an existing Record – you'll see a screen with your available archetypes. This screen has two views you can switch between:
### List View
A simple scrollable list of archetypes. Available options appear at the top. If some archetypes aren't available, they'll appear grayed out below with an explanation.
### Graph View
A visual diagram showing how different archetypes connect to each other. This helps you see the "big picture" of your Project's structure. You can pinch to zoom and drag to pan around.
**To switch views:** Tap the view toggle button at the top of the screen.
The Graph View is especially helpful when you're unsure about your Project's structure. Here's how to read it:
#### What You'll See
* **Boxes (Nodes):** Each box represents an archetype
* **Lines (Connections):** Lines show which archetypes can be parents/children of each other
* **Colors:** Available archetypes are highlighted; unavailable ones are muted
#### How to Use It
1. Open the Record creation screen
2. Switch to Graph View
3. Look at the highlighted boxes—these are your available options
4. Tap a box to select that archetype
#### The Auto-Layout Toggle
The graph has an "Auto Layout" button that rearranges the boxes to make the structure clearer. Toggle it on if the default view looks cluttered.

Once you've selected an archetype either from the Flat or Graph selection views, you'll be asked to:
#### 1. Enter a Name
Your Project might automatically suggest a name (like "Building-001"). You can:
* **Accept the suggestion** by leaving it as-is
* **Type your own name** if you prefer something specific
#### 2. Choose What Happens Next
**Create & Open** Creates the Record and immediately opens it so you can fill in the details.
**Create & Map Location** Creates the Record and opens the map so you can set its location. (Only available for archetypes that have map locations.)
