# Troubleshooting

#### "My location is way off"

**Check your GPS source** — Make sure you're using your external GPS if you have one, not "iPad GPS"

**Check the accuracy value** — High numbers (10m+) mean poor GPS signal. Try:

* Moving away from buildings or tree cover
* Waiting a minute for GPS to settle
* Making sure your external GPS has a clear view of the sky

#### "I can't see the map"

**If map is blank:**

* You may be offline without downloaded maps
* Open Layers → Enable Offline Areas → Download when you have internet

**If Records are missing:**

* Check if filters are active (look for badge on filter button)
* Open Filter sheet → Clear All

#### "My external GPS isn't showing up"

1. Make sure the GPS device is turned on and has battery
2. Check that Bluetooth is enabled on your iPad/iPhone
3. Tap GPS source label → Tap **+** → Choose device type → Scan/Connect
4. For Trimble: Make sure Trimble Mobile Manager is installed and device is paired there first

#### "GPS indicator is orange or red"

This means GPS data is stale:

* **Orange** (3-10 seconds old) — Usually temporary, wait a moment
* **Red** (>10 seconds) — Connection may be lost

**Try:**

* Make sure GPS device is nearby and on
* Move to area with better GPS signal
* Check device battery
* Try reconnecting the device

#### "I made a mistake while drawing"

* **Tap "Undo"** to remove the last point
* **Tap "Redo"** to bring it back
* **Tap the red X** to cancel and start over (discards all changes)

#### "The Add button is disabled"

This could mean:

* **GPS-only mode** is enabled and you're in Manual mode — switch to GPS
* **Accuracy threshold** not met — wait for better GPS signal
* Check the message under the button for specific guidance

#### "Record doesn't appear on map"

* The Record might not have location data yet — open it and add a location
* It might be filtered out — check and clear filters
* Zoom out — it might be outside your current view

### Final Tips for Success

1. **Prepare before you leave** — Download maps, connect GPS, charge devices
2. **Watch your accuracy** — A few seconds of waiting can mean the difference between a 10-meter and a 1-meter capture
3. **Use the right mode** — GPS capture for where you're standing, manual placement for things you can see but can't reach
4. **Check your work** — Tap Records after creating them to verify the location looks right
5. **Don't worry about mistakes** — Everything can be edited. It's better to capture something imperfect than to capture nothing
6. **When in doubt, add more points** — For lines and polygons, more vertices mean a more accurate shape (unless your Project leaders say otherwise)
7. **Keep an eye on battery** — GPS is power-hungry. Take breaks from the map screen when you don't need it
8. **Use Feature Discovery** — Long-press on crowded areas to find exactly which Record you need
