# Viewing & Filtering Records

#### What Records Look Like on the Map

Records appear as colored shapes based on their location type:

| Location Type | What It Looks Like |
| ------------------ | --------------------------------------------------- |
| **Single Point**   | A colored circle marker                             |
| **Line** | A colored line connecting multiple points |
| **Polygon (Area)** | A colored outline with semi-transparent fill inside |

The colors are set by your Project administrator — different archetypes have different colors to help you tell them apart at a glance.

**When you tap a Record**, it becomes highlighted (typically with white/bright styling), and a **Record Card** slides up from the bottom with more information.

#### Feature Discovery (Long-Press)

When multiple Records overlap or you need to find exactly what's at a location:

1. **Long-press** anywhere on the map
2. A sheet slides up listing all Records/features near that point
3. Tap any item in the list to select it

This is especially useful when Records are stacked on top of each other!

#### Using Filters to Find What You Need

When you have lots of Records on the map, filters help you focus on what matters.

**To filter Records:**

1. Tap the **Filter button** (funnel icon) in the toolbar
2. The Filter sheet slides up with sections for:
   * **Active Filters** — See and clear current filters
   * **Spatial Filters** — Draw areas on the map to filter (if GIS enabled)
   * **Archetype** — Filter by archetype (e.g. only Sites, only Artifacts)
   * **Status** — Filter by status (In Progress, Completed, etc.)
   * **Location Type** — Filter by Points, Lines, or Polygons
   * **Media** — Filter by whether Records have photos/attachments
   * **Hierarchy** — Filter by parent/child relationships
   * **Assignee** — Filter by who's assigned
3. Tap any filter option to toggle it on/off

**The filter badge:** When filters are active, you'll see a number badge on the filter button showing how many filters are on.

**To clear all filters:** In the Filter sheet, look for **"Clear All"** in the Active Filters section.

#### Changing Map Layers

**To change how the map looks:**

<figure><img src="https://3544178300-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FJ8P3pqhxdFwQkIOjOUut%2Fuploads%2FFiN02b0RIDlv11GW8U8N%2FScreenRecording_01-08-202611-25-55_1-ezgif.com-video-to-gif-converter.gif?alt=media&amp;token=34b805e8-7db3-4b4d-81b4-ee9a11c593c1" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

1. Tap the **Layers button** (top-right, looks like stacked squares)
2. The Layers sheet opens with two sections:

**Map Style** — Scroll horizontally to choose:

* Satellite imagery
* Street map
* Outdoor/terrain
* And more...

**Overlays** — Toggle visibility of:

* **Custom Overlays** — GIS layers added by your administrator (with opacity controls)
* **Project Area** — The Project boundary (if defined)
* **Offline Areas** — Downloaded map regions
* **Labels** — Record names on the map
* **Spatial Filters** — Filter polygons you've drawn (with opacity slider)
