# Project History

The **Project History** view shows every meaningful change that has happened in a Project, with who did it, when, and from which platform. It's the audit trail Codifi uses to answer "what changed?" and "who did it?" questions long after the fact.

> Project History is the **Project-level** view of the same activity log that powers the per-Record **Edit History** ("clock icon") on mobile. Both are surfaces over [Hydra](/codifi-docs/cross-platform-features/hydra.md), Codifi's event-sourced sync engine.

## What History tracks

For each event, History Records:

* **Who** — the user account that initiated the change.
* **When** — timestamp.
* **What** — the specific change (field name, old value, new value).
* **Where from** — web, mobile (iPad or iPhone), or system (automatic changes such as scheduled status updates).

## How to open Project History

From the Project workspace toolbar, click **History** (or the clock icon, depending on your tenant's UI version).

The view opens as a chronological timeline, most recent at the top.

## Filtering History

The History view supports filters for working with busy Projects:

* **By user** — see only events from a specific person.
* **By date range** — narrow to "this week," "last month," or a custom range.
* **By event type** — Record creation, status change, media, etc.
* **By Record** — click a Record event to scope to just that Record's history (same as the per-Record Edit History view).

## The Recall workflow

Some kinds of changes can be **recalled** — i.e., reverted by restoring a previous value.

How recall works:

1. Open a Record's per-field Edit History.
2. Find the previous value you want to restore.
3. Click **Recall**.
4. The previous value is restored as a *new* history event (not a rewrite of the past).

The original change isn't deleted — it's still in the history. Recall adds a new "value reverted to X" event on top. This preserves the full audit trail even when fixing mistakes.

## Common uses

**Audit & compliance:**

* Who recorded this value? Open History and find the event for that field.
* When was this Record finalized? Look for the status change to Approved.
* Did anyone modify this Record after it was QC'd?

**Troubleshooting:**

* "I thought I entered X, but the Record shows Y." Open History; the field's edit trail tells you what changed and when.
* "Why did this Record's parent change?" The relationship change event shows who and when.

**Process improvement:**

* See how long Records typically sit in "Ready for Review" before approval.
* Identify which crew members tend to leave Records incomplete.

## Privacy and retention

* **Event data is retained for the lifetime of the Project.** Codifi does not automatically prune history.
* **User identity** is recorded as the authenticated user's account ID — display names update as users rename, but the underlying ID is stable.
* **Deleted Records still have history.** Even a deleted Record's history events remain — useful when an accidental delete needs to be reconstructed.
* **Access to History** follows Project permissions. Anyone who can open the Project can open History.

## Common pitfalls

* **Expecting Project History to show non-Project events.** Tenant- level admin actions (creating users, changing roles) don't show up here — they live in Tenant-level audit logs, accessible to admins.
* **Recalling a value that's downstream of a Ripple formula.** Recalling the input restores the input; the calculated field that depends on it re-evaluates per its formula. Recall doesn't override formula logic.
* **Confusing History with status changes.** Status is one field on the Record; History captures changes to status alongside every other change.
